A very long time ago, I made a vow that I would never ever spend the extra money on cleansers and this testament of mine is well documented throughout the blogsphere too. You'll often see me leaving comments on other blogs about me not believing in spending the extra dime for something that lasts less than a minute on my face.
And because my life is pretty much a badly written comedy, my own words will often come back to bite me in my arse. Why? Well, I am currently obsessed with cleansers. I.Want.Them.All.
Today's post focuses on the current cleansers that are in my rotation. They all bode well for my dry and...let me take a moment (pause dramatically because that's my jam)...mature skin. This winter has been especially rough as we experienced thick snow which is extremely rare for my part of Canada and these cleansers have been playing a huge part in keeping my skin normal-ish.
This is the one that triggered my cleanser obsession. I had no idea what to expect from it other than reading the word 'hydrating' in the name and my skin is in desperate need of hydration. It took me a couple of days to finally settle on the best way to use this cleanser for my skin but wow, I freaking love this.
The texture is exactly what its called, a delicious almond cake batter smelling mud which foams when water is added. Now here comes the tricky part, GlamGlow and Sephora each listed different ways to use this cleanser and I find the formers suggestion is very harsh and dries out my skin. Sephora has it right this time as I find foaming with hands before adding to the face for cleansing gives the best results. I often pair this cleanser with Olay Pro-X and use it as my second cleanse in the evenings and my skin is left looking radiant, fresh and feeling soft and smooth after rinsing.
I won a whole skincare set from Delia Organics last year and am slowly trying out the products. I am a massive fan of the Glycolic mask so I had high hopes for this and it didn't disappoint. First of all, it has a pretty impressive ingredient list and it's made to suit all skin types, even the sensitive ones.
It has a thick gel texture and has a faint citrusy scent. Initially I was worried that it would dry out my skin as it does foam up considerably but on the contrary, this cleanser helps to fade some pigmentations, brightens and nourishes my skin.
If I had to choose one cleanser to use for the rest of my life, this would be it. There are just no words to describe how much I am in love with this sulfate-free cleanser, it never ceases to amaze me just how much my skin loves it.
It has a runny gel like texture with a faint fresh scent and I only need a little each time (half a pump). It does foam up and cleanses the skin without leaving my skin screaming for hydration after rinsing. The real magic is how soft, smooth and fresh to the point my skin looks almost young again after every rinse. Trust me when I say you need to try this cleanser, it's game changing for me.
If you are sensitive to exfoliants then I highly suggest giving this a try. Yes, the price is steep but I only need extremely little (half a teaspoon ) each time.
This is a unique rice-based enzyme powder that microfoliates and leaves the skin noticeably smoother and brighter. Don't be mistaken that its gentleness equals to ineffectiveness, on the contrary it banishes dry spots and patches like no other and I have no problem using it on my dry skin everyday. If you suffer from dryness and dull, lack lustre skin then I highly recommend giving this a try. This is definitely my holy grail exfoliant.
An oldie but a goodie and I will not be going in-depth about this cleanser as you can read the full review here. Despite the new additions to my cleansing rotations, this cleanser remains as a firm favourite of mine and for very good reasons too. I love using this as my second cleanse in the evenings or on days my skin needs the extra boost of hydration.
So there you have it, the list of cleansers that have been helping my dry and mature (omg, I hate that word, more so than ever) skin throughout this nasty winter that I am experiencing. I hope this list will be helpful to anyone who has a similar skin type as me or is looking for a new cleanser to try.
Have you tried any of these cleansers before? What are your favourite cleansers for your skin type?
