Ecotools first graced my beauty life in early 2013 when hubby dearest surprised me with my first set of makeup brushes. It was the defining moment when I finally threw away all my ragged sponge applicators and felt like a real professional because I had my very own makeup brushes.
And every single one of those brushes from that set are still in tip top condition and I use them almost everyday.
There is no denial that Ecotools is a trusted and reliable brand for makeup brushes and when I found out that they released a lot of new products to mark their 10th anniversary, I was beyond excited. They also released a set of sponges to accompany their ever growing makeup tool range which I have been testing for the past month so let's see if the sponges rival my beloved Real Technique Miracle Complexion sponges.
Right off the bat I could feel these sponges were denser than the Beauty Blender and Real Technique Miracle sponges. Sizes wise they are pretty similar for the larger ones but the smaller sponges are definitely different. See below.
I wish I could say I love Ecotools sponges as much as the Real Technique Miracle sponges but alas, that would be lying to you guys. I find Ecotools sponges are way too dense and because of that, it leaves a cakey and sometimes streaky finish on my face. It's stated on the packaging that these sponges are meant for full coverage but I find them to be...well,...not the best.
The worst culprit is the smaller sponge which is meant for precise and detailed coverage. It doesn't seem to expand as much even though I soak it with water and no thanks to its density, it feels a lot firmer and doesn't bounce as well which led to a streaky finish with my concealers. The finish also seems to highlight the fine lines under my eyes and I have to try smoothing it out with my fingers.
Now onto the bigger sponge which is meant to provide light and buildable coverage, thankfully I have a much better experience with it because it's a lot less dense and is also much softer. It does blend out my foundation well but I find that it took me longer to get the finish that I wanted. I also find that it absorbs the products because for the first time I feel like I need more foundation and concealer than usual. All that said, I don't mind using it but I will not be repurchasing.
The angle brush picks up the right amount of powder to fill in my eyebrows and the spoolie is the perfect softness so it doesn't hurt my skin and it combs through perfectly to blend in products. I have been reaching for both every single time I fill in my eyebrows, seriously what an amazing pair!
I hope you guys enjoy my short and sweet reviews for a couple of new Ecotools products and I have my eyes on a few more of their new launch so watch out for more reviews on the brand!
