Growing up I was always the lucky girl who had great skin. Lucky for me but on the other hand I never understood why my friends made a huge fuss about their skin and why they had red, inflamed spots on their face.
You see, I grew up in a very traditional family. We didn't talk about the birds and the bees, we didn't talk about the changes we go through during puberty, we didn't talk about hormones and the stork brings the babies, period. So you can imagine how naive (and ignorant) I was when I left home for college and wow, I had to discover the hard way that the world is not always a kind place.
Back to skincare.
Tea tree skincare products have been sworn by many for centuries and as always, I am late to the party. I take for granted that my skin is usually good so I never thought I needed tea tree products in my routine. But as you and I know, one of the downsides of being a beauty blogger is we push our skin to the limits by testing multiple products. Breakouts become more and more common and before I knew it, tea tree and I became bffs.
Thursday Plantation Tea Tree range consists of a 3 step routine; Tea Tree Face Wash Foam*, Tea Tree & Witch Hazel Toner* and Tea Tree Face Cream*. All products are free from synthetic parabens, mineral oils, propylene glycol, lauryl sulphates, synthetic fragrances, synthetic colours, synthetic preservatives and animal derived ingredients.
I'm not going in-depth about the Tea Tree Face Wash Foam* ($12.99CAD) as I have raved about it in another post (read here) but in short, it's a brilliant foaming face wash that helps cleanse the skin without stripping while keeping the spots at bay. It also helps to minimize and heal existing breakouts and it's the cleanser I reach for especially during that time of the month.
Tea Tree & Witch Hazel Toner* ($12.99CAD) is love at first use and if you guys are following me on Instagram then you know I have been gushing about this toner. Just like the face wash, this toner has a short ingredient list (only 15 ingredients) and contains Witch Hazel Water, Tea Tree Leaf Oil, Lactic Acid, Sodium Lactate, Allantoin, Lavender Oil and Aloe Juice Powder.
I will warn you that the tea tree scent is very strong so it might take some getting used to but if you can ignore that then this toner is remarkable. It soothes and nourishes the skin like no other and is by far one of the best toners that I have ever tried. And I have been using toners since the tender age of 14 so I have tried many! It doesn't dry out my skin but instead it leaves a slight cooling and fresh sensation which my skin absolutely love.
Last in the routine is Tea Tree Face Cream* ($15.99CAD) and the short ingredient list continues with it. It contains Tea Tree Oil, Allantoin, Orange and Lavender Oils, Vitamin E and a blend of natural moisturizers; macadamia oil, rosehip oil and shea butter.
Don't let the cream scare you into thinking it's greasy because it's anything but that. It actually feels quite light and absorbs quickly without leaving any residue and tackiness.
Honestly I am still on the fence about it; it's great with calming down my skin when I am experiencing a breakout but on the other hand, it's not hydrating enough for me. I have to add a couple drops of facial oil each time to make it works for my dry-normal skin. I might have better luck with it during Summer so I will definitely try it again then.
Last but not least, I also received Tea Tree Medicated Gel for Acne* ($10.99CAD) which is a benzoyl peroxide-free treatment gel. It contains 20% tea tree oil and targets acne, pimple, whiteheads and blackheads.
I find it to work better at healing spots than minimizing them if that makes any sense. I have no patience so I usually pop the pimples as soon as they come to head (Yes, it's very bad and no, I can't stop doing it. It's the case of 'do as I say not as I do'.) and I find this gel helps to heal the area. If you are looking for a gentler non-benzoyl peroxide treatment option then I highly recommend trying this.
This has been a great journey discovering the benefit of tea tree oils and a great introduction to Thursday Plantation. I will be repurchasing both face wash foam and toner when I run out because I honestly can't see myself without them.
If you have combo, oily or breakout prone skin and are looking for a more natural approach towards skincare then I highly recommend checking out Thursday Plantation.
