Serum is a skincare category that I can't live without and am more than happy to splurge on. If you are wondering why bother using a serum or why pay extra $$$ for one, well, serum is something I would describe as essential or it is in my routine.
Serums are usually formulated with a higher concentration of active ingredients and they are more potent than essences, toners or moisturizers. They are also amazing for specific skin problems; acne, dehydration, fine lines, hyper-pigmentation, etc.
Now this doesn't mean paying more money means you get better formulation because these days we are spoilt for choices and there are fantastic products for all sorts of budgets. The main thing is to know what your skin needs and what ingredient works best for it.
Today I'm sharing 5 serums that I that I have been testing for the past 4-5 months and let's find out; yay or nay.

This brand might sound familiar to you and if it does, it's because I have mentioned and featured the brand a few times both on here and on my Instagram page. I am slowly going through all the products from this brand and by far, this has to be my favourite product of the bunch.
It has a lightweight almost watery gel like texture and absorbs almost instantly. This serum is rich with antioxidants, Hyaluronic Acid, Royal Jelly and contains 3 acids; Glycolic, Latic and Malic acids. On top of all that, it also contains peptides which supposedly help to boost collagen production and increases firmness.
I tested this serum twice a day for almost a month and I noticed an increase in my skin's clarity. The biggest difference that I saw was my nasolabial folds are also no longer as deep. Did I notice any differences in firmness? No, but my skin is also not saggy (yet!) so it's hard for me to gauge if this serum was effective in combating loss of firmness.
Final verdict? I thought I loved Kallẽis Oxi Serum (reviewed here) but Lift Serum definitely triumphed over it.
Why does this serum have to be so bloody expensive?! Ugh!
There are so many bloggers who swear by this serum but it was so hyped up that it turned me off. And then one fine day, Anne decided to review and gave her approval so what does a girl do? Well, I got lucky because Sephora was having a promo code for 10mL deluxe size of this serum and I managed to snag 3.
The ingredient list is really lovely; rich with antioxidants, Niacinamide, Hyaluronic Acid and it has a silky texture. My normal-dry skin drinks this up however oily skin lovelies might want to avoid using this serum in the day time.
Just within one week I noticed a huge difference in my skin textures, smoothness and radiance. I would even go as far as stating my skin actually looked younger.
Final verdict? This hurts my wallet so bad but I don't think I can ever be without this serum in my rotation. If you are in your mid-30s and upwards and you have the budget for it then I highly recommend giving this serum a try.
This is another expensiveeee serum that unfortunately my stupid skin fell in love with. Yes, my skin has expensive taste...ugh.
Tata Harper is a brand that needs no introduction. The brand prides itself as a cruelty free, 100% natural and green brand and all the products are made in small batches to ensure the best quality and freshness.
This serum is 100% natural and 67% of the ingredients are organic. It contains both AHAs and BHAs and I love reaching for this whenever my skin is being a twat. The results are instantaneous on the very next morning; my skin is clearer, more radiant and looks like I had the best sleep the night before.
I do have to note that this serum smells strongly like lemongrass so if you're not a fan then it's wise to get a sample before buying full size.

Final verdict? The glow that this serum gives me surpasses any other skincare products that I have ever tried so this serum is definitely a holy grail status for me. The price is ridiculously high however so I only use this serum once, at most twice a week so I personally can justify repurchasing it.
INSTYTUTUM ANTI-WRINKLE BRIGHTENING C-SERUM* US$89.00/ 30mL)
It's no secret that I adore Instytutum as a brand; no bullshit, no gimmick but just amazing products with great ingredient lists. The brand recently had a do-over and the packaging had a facelift and I find it to be more professional looking.
DR ROEBUCK'S PROTECT & PREVENT SERUM ($79.95CAD/ 30mL)

Anti-Wrinkle Brightening C-Serum is a 15% Vitamin C THD serum and it's rich with Vitamin E, Niacinamide, Squalane and Tripeptide-5. This serums is rich, very silky and it absorbs beautifully into the skin. I am careful to use only 2-3 drops every morning because using too much will leave a slightly oily finish on the skin.
This is a serum that you need to be patient with, the results are not an overnight miracle but after using it every morning for two weeks, my skin is reaping the benefits of this serum. My freckles are fading fast, my pores look smoother, the fine lines around my eyes are also considerably less prominent.
That all said, I hate the packaging of this serum and wish it came in a pump bottle instead of a pipette. It's messy, I hate wasting product and every time I open the bottle it exposes the product to air and light which over time will break down the active ingredients.
Final verdict? I adore this serum and think it's by far the best Vitamin C serum I've ever tried but the packaging sucks and will deter me from repurchasing it in the future.
I'm not going to say much other than I don't like this serum, not even one bit. It may come as a surprise to many because everyone and I mean literally everyone on every blog I came across loved this serum and swear by it.
It has amazing ingredients which is the main reason why I bought it. I was 110% positive that I would love it the same way everyone else seems to be but nope, this serum has to be one of the biggest duds of 2018 for me. It did nothing for my skin other than breaking it out which is so strange as I almost never break out from skincare. I bought this months ago before the packaging changed so I had ample of time to test it and each time my skin would break out in spots.
Final verdict? Sorry, not for me but please Google about this serum and read about it on other blogs because it seems to do wonders for everyone else.
Have you tried any of these serums?
